Brick

What’s happening? I can’t move. I can’t even feel my legs. And why is it so dark? There’s nothing.

Well there must be something because I’m thinking. I’m aware of this.

Here.

Now.

But what else? I’m enclosed. Encased. Hemmed in. Oppressed even.

If only I coudl move, stretch, get away from this…this…place. Whever it is and wherever I am.

In fact – where am I?

What am I sensing?

Ooh! I’m moving. There’s light. And sound.

Now I’m rollingover and over. Up and down. Now I’m still.

Ah now I think I can feel and see something. Yes it’s light. Wait…there are other things around me…And if I listen, feel, think…I can perceive them too.

There are many of us. Just laid out here.

Wherever here is.

It seems like an unending stretch of…brown? Of something.

And wait..yes…there are five things waving in the sky. Each moves like some weird, twisted animal.

What’s happening? It’s coming for me. Wait…

…I’m…flying! Up in the air! Wow. What a feeling. And the others they;re around me too. I can feel them.

Aaand..oh wow I’m getting close to something. It’s another one…no that’s too fast, too close. I’m going to hit it!

Oh please magic five thing animal…I’m not ready to end…

…but what?

<<click>>

I’ve stopped. I’m still. I’m…somehow linked to another.

Er…hello?

Hey!

What’s going on?

You mean you don’t know?

No! I was…it was..quiet. I felt…nothing, then I was moving rolling over and over, then some animal pulled me really fast…and now I’m here talking to you! What’s going on?

Aha! Well. Just pause a second. Stop. Get that? Feel that?

Oh…oooh…wow…I’m…I’m part of something. I’m connected to you…and…there are lots of us.

“Hey!”
“How’s it going?”
“What’s up?”
“Hello.”

Hey now you’re getting it!

You mean – I’m a wall?

No you’re not a wall…you’re infinite potential. You can be anything. EN-EE-THING!

What?

Yes – I’ll spell it out…

You. Are. A. Lego. Brick.

I originally wrote this in the summer holidays three years ago (2022-07-27 to be exact). After I said to my wife I could write a story about anything. She said the word ‘brick’ and I wrote this.
